Wireless network technology has redefined the way we connect as individuals, businesses, and societies with each new stage in its evolution. It is poised to do so again with the expansion of its latest generation: 5G. 5G will be an enabler, unlocking the potential of technologies like edge computing (Edge) and immersive reality while paving the way for the development of fully autonomous systems. The pioneers that drive the adoption of 5G and Edge will see tremendous opportunity for growth and the ability to unlock the full potential of developing technologies. To realize these opportunities, creative innovation and infrastructure development will be needed to maximize the benefits of the new network architectures that will emerge with 5G and Edge. In March 2021, Deloitte Digital partnered with SCADpro to communicate the future of 5G and Edge by portraying the ultimate 5G/Edge experience with a focus on their Government and Public Services (GPS) clients. The SCADpro team quickly realized that the future of 5G will not be defined by technological barriers or infrastructure costs, but by the extent of our imaginations.
As the visual lead and illustrator in the team. my role is to:
1. Led and designed the project's visual guidelines based on Deloitte's visual branding strategies. 2. Researched and analyzed the usage of 5G within Government and Public Services and worked with the team to come up with three initial design concepts. 3. Designed and conducted the visual development of the project process book, which includes visual assets, illustrations, cover, and layout design.Motion video designed by Animation Team
5G and Edge are more than new technologies to connect us faster. They will be the backbone of a new generation of hyperconnected systems where we can push the bounds of automation, bring healthcare into the home, and drive connectivity to the tactical edge.
The future of 5G and Edge will stand on
five key design pillars
Urban Mobility
5G will radically change connection in urban environments. With its ability to reliably support up to a million devices per square kilometer, 5G will be able to transform city streets into hyperconnected networks of devices and sensors able to communicate in real-time. This connectivity will generate unprecedented amounts of raw data that Edge and AI will be able to convert into informative insights. This information will power dynamic interactions between devices across the network and improve efficiency in city operations. As 5G and Edge infrastructure is expanded, cities will become intelligent environments able to use data-driven insights to improve road safety, reduce traffic congestion and pollution, and create the foundation for fully autonomous vehicles.
Hospital in Home
5G will offer the data speeds and network capacity to support the continuous transfer of health data from the multitude of monitoring devices used in hospitals. It will also allow the expansion of IoT networks within the hospital to improve monitoring and tap into new sources of data. Access to new forms of data and the optimized collection of existing data through 5G will inform improved patient outcomes and unlock comprehensive data analytics for hospital performance and patient care.
Connected Battlefield 5G
5G will revolutionize connectivity on the battlefield. When fully integrated, 5G will enablen seamless joint force communication informed by massive IoT networks of sensors. With 5G’s high speeds, these networks will be able to rapidly communicate data from diverse sources, ranging from simple soldier vital tracking to live camera feeds from soldiers and drones. 5G’s low-latency will ensure that when this information is transferred, whether it’s to a soldier on the ground or an F-35 pilot in the sky, it will arrive up to
100 times faster than the blink of an eye. Pushing 5G to the tactical edge will require the transformation of military communications into a dynamic network able to rapidly adapt to changing battlefield conditions. It will also require innovative solutions to 5G’s limited range. However, 5G’s ability to support deviceto- device (D2D) communication and it’s lower power consumption offer the potential for new solutions that operate with or without connections to the full network.
